El enfoque principal del Volumen 3 radica en tocar a dúo en diferentes metros y tonalidades. La variedad de las piezas de recital seleccionadas está diseñada para fomentar la diversión en la creación musical y desarrollar el sentimiento por los estilos musicales contrastantes. Sobre esta base, se practican y amplían a fondo los patrones familiares de los dedos y los golpes de arco. Los alumnos también encuentran ornamentos fundamentales (trinos, apoyaturas, mordentes superiores) y una nueva unidad rítmica: el tresillo.

Una tabla en el interior de la contraportada enumera los números de página de todos los dúos contenidos en este volumen y en el Volumen 3 del tutor de violonchelo “Früher Anfang auf dem Cello” (BA 9693), lo que permite tocar las piezas con viola y violonchelo.
