<p>El ciclo de Parrianas está escrito para un ensamble instrumental que obliga a sus ejecutantes a cantar, recitar, hablar y susurrar. El conjunto está compuesto esencialmente por voz femenina, clarinete, violín, cello, piano y percusión. Este ciclo está basado en una serie de antipoemas de Nicanor Parra,–la mayoría de su Obra Gruesa– y fue compuesto como homenaje a la familia Parra –Nicanor, Violeta y Roberto– y su aporte a la cultura nacional. La obra se encuentra registrada en el CD Trilogía Las Parrianas y Obras Corales. Composiciones para desorientar a la Música y a la Poesía (2007).<br />
En la carátula del CD, Matthey afirma que sus Parrianas se acercan al teatro musical. El recitado y el canto que se les exige a los músicos –que no son cantantes– se hace para lograr timbres cercanos al canto popular y la vida cotidiana y no un canto refinado por la academia. A momentos hay cierto parentesco con el rap, pero también hay referentes europeos, como el Pierrot Lunaire (1912) de Schönberg, y su “sprechgesang” –canto hablado– y la Historia del Soldado (1918) de Stravinsky, que incluye lecturas ritmadas.</p>

<div>In 1903, Satie composed his famous cycle for piano duet with the provocative and ambiguous title “3 Morceaux en forme de Poire”. (In French, “poire” means “pear” but also “dimwit”). It is a detached and ironic commentary on the constraints of musical form.<br />
Now this cycle is being published in a scholarly-critical Urtext edition for the first time. Convenient page turns, a score format, translations of the French expression and tempo markings, Satie’s enigmatic introduction, performance suggestions by the Satie specialist Steffen Schleiermacher and a detailed foreword by the renowned musicologist Jens Rosteck make the study and performance of these pieces a true pleasure.</div>
